I wrote a short piece for euobserver on the current protests that are directed not just against the proposed cuts to agricultural subsidies, but more generally against the government.
The long and the short of it is this:
- The far right is not the driving force behind the protests, but they are trying to surf the wave.
- The style of the protests points to an erosion of democratic norms in Germany
